Shimla is the capital of Himachal Pradesh. The splendid beauty and pleasant climate of this town makes it one of the most preferred tourist destinations in India. Shimla was the summer capital during the British regime. The Victorian architecture of the town gives it a distinct appeal.
Shimla is located at 31.61°N 77.10°E with an average altitude of 2397.59 meters. The town was built on seven hills in the south-western Himalayas. Two tributaries of River Yamuna, Giri, and Pabbar flow through Shimla. The forests in and around the city are that of pine, deodar, oak and rhododendron.
Shimla's climate can be described as subtropical highland climate. The summers are moderately cold here while winters witness snow falls and dropping temperatures. The town receives heavy rainfalls compared to plains but less than other hill stations.
